Scapula (shoulder blade) fractures are usually due to high-energy trauma. Other injuries must be excluded like spinal injuries or rib fractures. Fractures involving the glenoid (socket) are classified according to the Ideberg
classification. The most important factor is the displacement of the fracture and if there is a step in the articular surface.
Very often a CT scan will be required to evaluate the displacement of the fracture parts to decide on surgery or conservative treatment.
